In Which I Finally Find Time To Write Something / Monday, March 20, 2006

Boy! I've been busy!

Not really with much interesting stuff though. I'll try and make it interesting...

Toby is laughing occasionally now, which is great. No sound could be any any sweeter.

Ash is doing much better, she's feeling the same love she had for Toby the first few days after he was born (which is to say overflowing) so that's good.

I'm working now, which is great, it's all good news isn't it?

KERBLAM! (Just trying to make it more interesting)

Well I guess you probably would like details on me working really. Even if you don't you're going to get them. So there. I'm learning to lay tiles, like floor tiles, bathrooms, countertops etc. I laid my fist tiles today (I've been doing grouting before that) and I didn't do a bad job even if I do say so myself! I know that you probably think it's easy (except for Dave who did mums bathroom, something that should never be mentioned in his presence) it's not. There's all this stuff about pitch, although walls in houses look pretty straight they actually not. And the slabs (the concrete that the house is built on) in New Orleans aren't exactly flat. I guess that might come from being built on a swamp. So if you followed the wall it would end up looking really kooky, and laying something flat on something wavy is an artform too. I'm iterested to know how to do walls, I think we might be doing some of that in the next couple of weeks.

ZOOOM!

I'm working for this guy called Chris. He's a nice guy. He used be an engineer for Rolls Royce (he makes more money laying tiles now, so this seems to be a pretty good trade to get into!) He also used to be a Navy Seal, and he's a country singer. So as you can imagine he's got some stories! Here's a couple of them:

He said that nothing can prepare you for looking into a mans eyes as you kill him. The first few times he enjoyed it, because the training that you go through to be a Seal makes you think that way, but after a few times you start to realise that you're taking everything away from him. He says it's easier to go up behind someone and break their neck, because you don't have to look in their eyes. He doesn't really like to talk about it obviously. He said that some of his friends went off to be mercenaries, getting million dollar contracts, but he said there wasn't any amount of money that'll make him do it again.

He also said while he was in the Seals he went to area 51 and saw a large silver ball balanced on a pedastal at one end of a hanger raise up and fly 300 metres in 2 seconds without making a sound. (I'm calling BS on this one) and he adamantly belives that the Earth has been visited by aliens and the US have much of their technology. He even says that his Aunt and Uncle saw a UFO in a Walmart parking lot and got sunburn in the middle of the night because of it.

As far as him being a country singer, I listened to his CD, it's passable I suppose, I'm no country expert, but he says that he had a regular night at the Grand Rivera casino pulling in crowds of up to 5000.

BOOOM!

Interesting guy eh? maybe he should write a blog!

Well there you go. I'm working 12 hour days, and with the 2 - 4 hour commute it means I'm just home to sleep pretty much, but we need the money! Anyhow, my dinner is getting cold.

Later dudes and dudettes.

In Which I've Had It With Sudoko / Friday, March 03, 2006

That's it. I've had enough of them. They are really peeing me off. I have better things to do with my time than spend half an hour solving one of them and then finding out that one of the numbers that I put in in the first ten minutes is in the wrong place. I'm going to stick with crosswords, at least with them you can work out if you've done something wrong within a couple of minutes of doing it. I am going to destroy the sudoko book I've got, in case it falls into the hands of Ash. I wouldn't want someone I love to go through what I have been through. It might just be that book, I came across a puzzle in it yesterday which was unsolvable. I mean it, no way to solve the thing. I spent almost two hours trying to find a way to do it, tried every different number combination, and it was just impossible to work out. Grrrr....

I watched the England Uruguay match. We did alright in it, the real interesting thing is that nike are showing this advert on the Fox Soccer Channel which I hope they aren't showing over there. It's here http://nikefootball.nike.com/nikefootball/siteshell/index.jsp#,us,0;jogatv,,0 I can paraphrase it quickly for you: Eric Cantona is appealing for players to start playing football. Just in case you don't know who Eric Cantona is here's a picture of him doing a flying kick at a fan http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/january/27/newsid_2506000/2506237.stm A great spokesman for fair play right? Hah! I mean he wasn't even the fairest player on the pitch either. I thought it was a joke to start with but it turns out it's real!

Here's the other stuff that relatives will need to know or I'll get nagged: Toby is 15lb 3.5oz, 26 inches long, and is turning into a real chatterbox, Ash is getting better, she's started applying for work, I'm doing good. Apart from blooming Sudoko.

Ariverdechi Dudes.
